I’m sure you guessed it from the name, but growing up in the video shop era was a big inspiration for Ex Rental. Both Paul and I spent hours flipping through boxes, studying the amazing artwork, and making that difficult decision about which tape you could take home for the night. Some of those covers, of course, were far superior to the films themselves, but it didn’t even matter if the films were bad; it was about the experience. Some of the best covers were painted by the incredible Graham Humphreys, who has contributed an amazing piece of artwork to the film, which we are using as the cover of a fake old Betamax tape titled ‘Vandals’.
